I read about the kidnap of Pavel Lerner in the BBC – Exmo Bitcoin exchange manager kidnapped in Kiev and tweeted about being surprised this didn’t happen more.
The same BBC report says Exmo describes him as an analytics manager. The Financial Times reports that a Bitcoin ransom of $1m paid for cryptocurrency boss. They go on to say that his LinkedIn profile describes him as the CEO, you’ll realise he is a person with significant control according to Companies House in the UK.
They are one of the more than 400 unregulated exchanges now, and it is interesting to see the company structure.
It isn’t clear if the $1 million was paid in Bitcoin or dollars. If Bitcoin, it would seem like these folk could be caught soon.
Going forward, will we see more kidnappings? Will we see the need for more private security?
